The Member of Parliament for Guruve North, Cde Tendai Pinduka, has distributed grocery hampers to persons with disabilities in his constituency.
During a meeting held at Nyamuseve Secondary School with the beneficiaries and their caregivers, several issues were raised, including the lack of representation of persons with disabilities in key sectors at district level.
Mr Tafara Chiwira appealed for a quota system for persons with disabilities within local authorities.
“This will help ensure that our needs are addressed at all levels We are often left out due to poor representation at district level,” he said.
Mr Chiwira also noted that persons with disabilities have become targets for theft due to their vulnerability.
He also called on well-wishers to support them by providing Bibles, radio sets, artificial limbs, and wheelchairs.
Cde Pinduka encouraged persons with disabilities to consider starting projects such as poultry farming.
“I urge you, with the help of your caregivers, to approach the relevant ministries and banks to apply for loans for your projects,” he said.
The legislator echoed President Mnangagwa’s call of ensuring that no one is left behind, emphasising the importance of including persons with disabilities in all initiatives.
Ms Gweshe, who is visually impaired, thanked Cde Pinduka for considering the needs of the disabled and encouraged him to continue with his compassionate work.
