ZANU-PF Politburo member, Cde Richard Ndlovu, has urged Central Committee members, legislators and councillors elected on party tickets to desist from serving their own interests and focus on working for the party in the coming year.
Speaking recently at an end-of-year Matabeleland South Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Gwanda, Cde Ndlovu noted that some partly officials have not been participating in local party programmes.
He said despite holding various legislative offices, members are obliged to work with the party structures at district and ward levels.
“We have to look at our shortcomings and where we were lacking in the year 2024 and work on that. A Member of Parliament shouldn’t convene a meeting without informing the District Coordinating Committee, and equally party district coordinating committee chairpersons must convene ward meetings while the Member of Parliament is there,” said Cde Ndlovu.
“Central Committee members from that particular district should also be present. This way we will become strong as a party as we will be working towards one cause.”
Cde Ndlovu said each member of the party in their various levels of office should guard the party jealously. He urged party members to start on a new leaf in the coming year to strengthen the party.
Cde Ndlovu said there was also a need for councillors to be whipped into line, noting that their involvement in party affairs is inadequate.
“As a party, we must guard jealously people who obtain positions under the party ticket. When someone wins, it’s the party which wins and not an individual and, hence we expect everyone to serve the party,” he said.
Cde Ndlovu urged party members to drop gossiping and mudslinging. He said such actions cause divisions and discord within the party.
Cde Ndlovu said party members must work to build the image of the party.
He further expressed concern over reluctance by party cadres to attend major national events including burials of national heroes and heroines at the National Heroes Acre.
“Attending hero burials is an important act for us as a party as it has a deep meaning. One of our core business as the party is to preserve the gains of the liberation struggle and these gains came about as a result of the dedicated effort from our liberation fighters,” said Cde Ndlovu.
“We therefore have to take part in the significant ceremonies such as bidding farewell to gallant sons and daughters.”
Cde Ndlovu said the party members should be more vigorous in mobilising new members and being visible at a grassroots level.
“Let’s go out and build the party. During the festive season, we have people that will be coming in from the diaspora and some of them are misguided and misinformed about the party. Let’s take the opportunity to educate the people on the party,” he said. — @DubeMatutu
