LEADING technology group Liquid Intelligent Technologies has completed a 730km fibre network extension from Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana in Botswana, marking a significant milestone in that country’s digital transformation journey.

A subsidiary of Cassava Technologies, Liquid Intelligent Technologies operates across over 40 markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
It boasts Africa’s most extensive digital infrastructure, with a 110 000km fibre network and satellite connectivity that delivers high-speed internet access across the continent.
The company also offers cloud and cybersecurity solutions through partnerships with global technology leaders.

In a statement, Liquid Botswana managing director, Mr Odirile Tamajobe, hailed the project as a ground-breaking achievement for Botswana, enabling direct connectivity from northern Botswana along the A1 Road.
This strategic expansion connects key towns, including Francistown, Mahalapye, and Palapye, advancing Botswana’s national digital transformation strategy.

“This fibre extension project is a milestone for Botswana, strengthening the country’s economic hubs and connecting major commercial centres,” said Mr Tamajobe.
“The high-speed connectivity access is set to benefit urban centres and rural communities along the route and further expand our presence in Botswana and the continent through the One Africa Digital Network.”
Mr Tamajobe said the project, which involved local contractor companies, enhances Botswana’s multi-terabit network capacity and provides critical connectivity for businesses in commercial, retail, financial, educational, and hospitality sectors.

Additionally, the initiative supports local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), enabling them to expand services to retail customers and households, thereby creating employment opportunities in the region.
Beyond national borders, the fibre network integrates seamlessly with Liquid’s continental infrastructure, connecting Botswana with Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan.

This robust cross-border digital framework strengthens Liquid’s One Africa Digital Network initiative, fostering seamless communication and commerce across the continent.
The network delivers critical connectivity for businesses and enterprises in major towns along the route, including significant commercial and retail centres, financial services, and educational and hospitality entities.

“The fibre extension project is a testament to Liquid’s ongoing investment in Botswana’s digital infrastructure and its pivotal role in supporting Africa’s digital transformation journey,” said Mr Tamajobe.
He said the increased access will further solidify Liquid’s position as a leader in the region’s digital transformation.

“The initiative also empowers local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to expand their services to retail customers, indirectly benefiting household users across the region and further contributing to regional employment opportunities,” he said. — @SikhulekelaniM1
