Two men jailed for 22 years each for fatal stabbing

Mashudu Mambo
TWO men from Nkayi in Matabeleland North Province have been slapped with an effective 22-year jail sentence each for fatally stabbing another man to death.
Abraham Ngwenya and Busena Munkuli, appeared before Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Ngoni Nduna, facing a charge of murder.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge but were convicted after trial and were each sentenced to 22 years in jail.
The court heard that on 6 December 2022, at around 3am, the now-deceased, Ronald Shonhiwa, was accompanying Thenjiwe Nyathi home from Theleka Business Centre when they were approached by the duo.

The duo became hostile towards the two and started attacking the deceased. He attempted to run away, and the duo gave chase.
Nyathi ran to Woza Special Bottle Store and informed Tobias Mpofu about the incident. Mpofu, together with Nyathi, went to where the victim was and found Ashton Thomas restraining the culprits from further assaulting the deceased.

Shonhiwa ran and hid behind Jacobs Cocktail Bar, where he collapsed and died. At around 5am his body was discovered by passersby who made a report to the police.
Investigations were carried out, leading to the arrest of the two murderers.
