Musawenkosi Moyo
AS the idiom goes “Snitches get stitches” and that could be no truer in the case of one man from Kensington plots on the outskirts of Bulawayo who was assaulted by his neighbour who had accused the man of snitching on him to the police.
Furious, the man allegedly organised a gang of five men that he joined to beat the living daylights out of the complainant.
The matter came to light when Hazvineyi Moyo (23) appeared before the court after allegedly assaulting Cephas Mpofu for ratting him out to the police.
Moyo appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Ernest Muzembe facing one count of assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to 6 December.
In his defence, Moyo admitted to having bad blood with the complainant because at the time of the incident he had been on the police wanted list and had been in hiding when he heard that one of his neighbours was supplying the police with information on his whereabouts.
Allegations against Moyo are that on 14 August 2024 at around 8 pm at Springs Farm, Kensington in Bulawayo, Moyo with five other accomplices who are still at large approached the complainant Cephas Mpofu and assaulted him several times all over the body using fists, stones and an iron bar.
It was heard that Moyo and his accomplices also accused the complainant of being part of a group of robbers who had been terrorising the area.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest of the accused.
