A storm of scandalous proportions has erupted, apparently shaking the very foundations of faith and trust when a heartbroken man from Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province, made an impassioned plea to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, to take disciplinary action against his wife, and her alleged lover, Alfos Bukosibethu Nyathi..
The man, who prefers to be identified only by his surname Chiwawa, alleges that Kagande, a senior church leader, has been engaged in an extramarital affair with his wife since 2022, causing irreparable harm to their marriage.
He said he had been living with his wife since 2010 and formally married her in 2022.
Chiwawa claims the affair began shortly after their wedding in 2022. He discovered the infidelity while preparing immigration documents for Kagande to join him in the UK.
Despite her confession to their church pastor only identified as Samuriwo based in Plumtree, Chiwawa says the church took no action, leaving him feeling betrayed and unsupported.
Chiwawa alleges that Kagande and Nyathi engaged in unprotected sexual relations frequently while he was away for work.
He said his wife began denying him conjugal rights during this time and that he contracted sexually transmitted infections twice from their limited encounters.
He accused Nyathi of disrupting his family and exposing his children to danger, as they were left unattended during Kagande’s absences.
In a letter to Prophet Bushiri, Chiwawa wrote:
“Nyathi started dating my wife in December 2022, and they continued their relationship until I left Plumtree. They would have unprotected sex nightly while I was working in Harare and only visiting home monthly. This behaviour destroyed my family.”
Chiwawa expressed disappointment with the church’s handling of the matter, claiming that instead of addressing his complaints, they promoted Kagande to a senior leadership role.
He accused Pastor Samuriwo of concealing his wife’s confession and blocking further discussions when confronted.
“I am saddened by the church’s response, which feels like a promotion of adultery. Instead of reprimanding my wife and Nyathi, they encouraged me to reconcile and made her a senior Levite, a position akin to that of a pastor. My pleas to the senior pastors have gone unanswered,” Chiwawa lamented.
Chiwawa also took his grievances to Nyathi’s workplace and announced plans to sue Nyathi for his role in the affair.
Despite confrontations and text message exchanges where Kagande admitted her misconduct and apologised, Chiwawa remains heartbroken and critical of the church’s stance.
In her messages, Kagande admitted to the affair.
However, she also attempted to justify her actions, claiming it was “prophesied” and expressing remorse for her actions.
Chiwawa insists that the church should take immediate disciplinary action against Kagande, Nyathi, and Pastor Samuriwo. He calls for stricter policies to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure accountability within the church.
“I feel betrayed by both my wife and the church. They should not tolerate such behaviour, especially from individuals in leadership positions. This has devastated my family, and I believe the church must uphold its values of integrity and respect,” Chiwawa stated.
Efforts to contact Kagande, Nyathi, and ECG church executives for comments were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
Meanwhile, in an initial phone call with our sister paper, H-Metro, Kagande stated that she was unaware of the allegations levelled against her by her husband.
Despite his efforts to seek justice and reconciliation, Chiwawa remains disappointed and continues to urge Prophet Bushiri to intervene.
