Yolanda Mlilo,Sunday News Reporter
HER modelling journey started when she was 16 and now at 21 years of age, Zanele Moyo is making waves in the cut-throat modelling industry where she has established a personal brand that captivates attention.
She has swiftly ascended to become a notable name in the fashion industry riding on her participation in various local pageants and fashion shows as well as high-profile events such as Miss Bulawayo Strides, Miss Teen of the Universe Zimbabwe, and the Zimbabwean Queen 2023.

Her accolades include being crowned Miss Teen of the Universe Zimbabwe second runner-up in 2019 and securing the title of 1st runner-up at the Zimbabwean Queen competition.
“I began my modelling career in 2021 while I was still in high school,” Zanele shared.
“It’s been an adventurous journey.”
Reflecting on her achievements, she expressed pride in her title wins, stating, “I’ve earned titles like Miss Teen of the Universe Zimbabwe second runner-up in 2019 and first runner-up for the Zimbabwean Queen.”

Beyond her personal success, Zanele is dedicated to uplifting the next generation of models.
“In my spare time, I enjoy mentoring young aspiring models by providing walking lessons and directing their photo-shoots,” she added.
Inspired by her height and structure, Zanele ventured into modelling with determination.
“I felt I had the right height and figure for a model, so I decided to give it a try,” she said.
Her most memorable experience in the industry was when she claimed the title of Zimbabwean Queen first runner-up.

Describing her passion for photography, she said, “My favourite part of being in front of the camera is expressing myself and my emotions through the images.”
She believes that photography can convey powerful messages about identity and body positivity.
In the fast-paced world of fashion, preparation is key and Zanele advises, “Models are taught to always stay ready for anything, so preparing for shoots or fashion shows isn’t a huge hassle. Just ensure you have the right stylist and makeup artist, and you’re good to go.”

For aspiring models, Zanele emphasises the importance of hard work and self-awareness.
“Understand why you started modelling; this will help you stay focused on your goals,” she said.
While acknowledging that criticism can be a double-edged sword, she chooses to focus on constructive feedback.
“Criticism can be both good and bad, but I prefer to concentrate on what builds me and disregard the rest,” she remarked.
Zanele added that the industry has its share of challenges but advised on the importance of investing in one’s self.

“It’s crucial to invest in yourself before any brand does. You must set the tone for your personal brand and shape how people perceive you,” she said.
Her advice to young aspiring models is simple yet powerful: “Be true to yourself and invest in self-care.”
