A new administration block has been officially commissioned at Esiphikeni Secondary School in Bubi District’s Ward 14 in a development expected to significantly enhance the school’s capacity to serve as an examination centre for its learners.
Previously, learners were required to travel up to 50 kilometres to the nearest examination centre, a logistical challenge that will now be alleviated.
The district has 57 primary schools of which only 32 are registered and 25 are satellite schools. It has only 17 secondary schools where just eight are registered and nine are satellite schools and non-examination centres.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, Richard Moyo lauded President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, which he said has facilitated such vital developments.
“The success of this initiative stems from the President’s commitment to partner with development stakeholders in advancing Zimbabwe towards its Vision 2030 objectives, ultimately aiming for an upper-middle-income economy,” Minister Moyo said.
He reiterated the Government’s dedication to enhancing the lives of young Zimbabweans, underscoring the philosophy of ‘leaving no one and no place behind.’
“Anticipate more projects like this in the future, all aimed at improving the welfare of our youth,” he added.
The minister also expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the local community, leadership and contributors who played key roles in the construction of the new block.
“The establishment of this administration block stands as a testament to our collective dedication to ensuring quality education and empowering our children. It is commendable that Esiphikeni Secondary School has consistently produced good O-level results, even with students having to travel long and painful distances for examinations,” he said.
Bubi Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Dr Patson Mlilo highlighted the significant challenges faced by students previously saying they were required to make long journeys for their exams.
“With the new administration block, Esiphikeni Secondary School is officially equipped to operate as an examination centre, bringing relief to both parents and pupils,” he noted.
Dr Mlilo expressed optimism about improved pass rates due to this development.
He also praised the innovative funding model employed for this project, which involved community organisation and the local councillor’s efforts.
“This model should be a blueprint for progress across the district. We encourage other wards in Bubi to adopt similar initiatives. Special recognition goes to Councillor Mrs Cookie Moyo and her ward development committee for their outstanding leadership in this effort,” Dr Mlilo added.
The construction of the new administrative block was made possible through the combined efforts of the local councillor, the community, generous donors and the rural district council, which provided essential resources, including electricity and labour costs.
