Know Your Warriors :Galloway makes successful return

PLYMOUTH Argyle defender Brendan Galloway made a successful return from injury, playing the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 Championship defeat to Swansea City on Tuesday. 

Galloway had been sidelined since late September due to an ankle injury sustained while on international duty with Zimbabwe in an Afcon Qualifier against Namibia.

The defender’s return to fitness is a timely boost for the Warriors, who are set to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Morocco early next year. 

Zimbabwe secured qualification after a solid campaign, which included two successive 0-0 draws against Kenya and Cameroon, followed by back-to-back wins against Namibia and a final draw against Kenya to confirm their spot in the finals.

Galloway’s experience and skills will be invaluable to the Warriors in Morocco. 

The 26-year-old has established himself as a key player for both Plymouth Argyle and the Zimbabwe national team. 

His successful return from injury will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the Warriors’ Afcon preparations.

Galloway initially joined Argyle on a short-term deal in the summer of 2021.

He immediately impressed with a series of classy performances on the left of the Pilgrims’ back three, but suffered an injury in October 2021 that would end up ruling him out of the rest of that season.

Galloway played 24 times as Argyle were promoted as Sky Bet League One champions in the 2022/23 season, which triggered an extension to his contract.

Before arriving in Devon, Brendan spent the majority of his career playing in the top two leagues in English football, joining Everton as a teenager from Milton Keynes Dons.

During his time at Goodison Park he caught the eye of English national selectors and played age group football for England from Under-17 to Under-21, but would later make his international debut for Zimbabwe, the country of his birth, after joining Argyle.

Brendan had two loan spells while still at Everton, playing for West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League and Sunderland in Sky Bet Championship, before signing permanently at Luton Town, where he spent a year before joining Argyle.
