I still choose you: Babes Wodumo remembers Mampintsha

Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, is still mourning the passing of her late husband Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo. The singer took to her social media account on Thursday, January 2 to remember the father of her son.

Mampintsha died two years ago, on December 24 after suffering a stroke. Ever since his death, Babes Wodumo has not stopped expressing love to her late husband.

The most recent was an Instagram post dedicated to him, which she captioned, “I still choose you.”

One user wrote: “May the spirit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ comfort you in this difficult time and give you peace, sorry for your loss.” Another user wrote: “We love you, Babes. May the Lord be with you always.”

A third commented: “Feel free to inbox me if your heart is aching. You are never alone, nawe uyazi (you also know), deep down inside your soul mntase. Let it all out. God hears everything, my dear, and I know your heart will eventually heal.”

The “Queen of Gqom” as she’s affectionately known also penned a message to the late musician on Christmas Eve 2024.

“Today marks my husband’s passing on 24 December. So, this means that today, it would be two years. Keep on resting in peace, Mashimane. Love, Babes,” she wrote.

Her fans comforted her and admitted that the music industry has not been the same since Mampitsha’s passing. Babes Wodumo and the late Mampintsha’s relationship made headlines due to the multiple events between them.

They were a controversial celebrity couple with an on-again, off-again relationship. In 2019, a video of Mampintsha slapping Babes went viral on Instagram, sparking outrage.

Both filed assault charges against each other, and Mampintsha was arrested and released on bail. During court appearances, the couple appeared to reconcile, and Babes withdrew her assault charges against Mampintsha.

They released a song together, confirming their reconciliation. In October 2020, Mampintsha proposed to Babes on Gagasi FM’s drive show. They married in 2021 and had a son later that year. — iol
