Sunday Sermon with Apostle Chisale
Greetings beloved nation, in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
We have come into that season where everyone is celebrating Christmas. I don’t have time to debate about the date and month when Jesus was born, but the greatest news is that he was born for the whole world.
That’s the truth that we cannot argue with. So, as we celebrate this season, let’s celebrate knowing that we are celebrating the love of God that was given for the whole world.
The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that who-soever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
It’s a season where we should appreciate the gift of eternal life that was given to us through our Lord Jesus Christ to those that have believed in Jesus so that they will not perish but have an eternal life. It’s a season that we must accept his love.
A lot of people take this season as a season of misbehaving forgetting that one day we shall be judged by his birth and by his resurrection. So, we should call Christmas a reminder of the love of God towards the world.
So, let’s define the word love. We should understand that the love of God has got dimensions; it has breadth, length, depth and height.
When God gave us Jesus to be born, through his love he had four things in his mind.
So, meaning if I say “I love you’ these are the things that echo in the mind of God. Ephesians 3:17-19 says, “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God”.
1. Commitment
God was committed to us, so we cannot talk about love without commitment. In every true love story there is commitment inside. We see, God committed himself by giving us his begotten son so that he will be born and then we believe in him, so that we may not perish but have an eternal life. What a great commitment.
2. Passion
He was passionate about us, meaning “to express feelings or be sorrowful” towards us. So meaning when he looked upon the world he felt something and he was sorrowful because of our sins.
There was this feeling that he had towards us, the feeling that we are his children, that’s why he had to show passion by sending Jesus to be born. All this is love towards the world.
3. Pleasure
This is a fundamental feeling that is hard to define. So meaning God had to find pleasure in us and the persons that we have become when we are born again.
4. Sacrifice
It’s the highest love at its best. A sacrifice is a covenant. So, we see God sacrificed his beloved son so that whosoever believed in him will not perish.
So, God made a covenant with us by sacrificing his only son. Psalms 50:5 says, “Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice”. So what is a covenant? It is a mutual understanding between two or more parties each binding himself to fulfilling specified obligations or a legal contract; a binding agreement or a solemn agreement to do or not to do a certain thing; a covenant is a sense of commitment to do a thing.
So in other ways, God by sacrificing his son, he was entering into a covenant with the world that whoso-ever will believe in him, the covenant will be activated towards him and God.
So he has sacrificed a lot because we were condemned to death but he had to bring redemption through the birth and the death of Jesus Christ so that we may not perish and our sins are forgiven.
This is his love towards a sinner. As we celebrate, let us be reminded by this great love he showed to us through these four dimensions.
Once again, I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and saviour and you shall be saved.
