THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced next Monday as the opening day for Lower Sixth students, and they are expected to pay school fees in proportion of the remainder of the first term.

In the past, schools would charge Form 5s the same amount of school fees with other students that would have been in school well before the announcement of O-Level results.

Reads part of a circular, titled “Commencement date for 2025 Lower Six classes Monday, 25 January 2025” and addressed to Provincial Education Directors around the country, signed by Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary Mr Moses Mhike: “The commencement date for the 2025 Lower Six classes is Monday, the 27th of January 2025. Please ensure that all heads, teachers, parents, and the above pupils are advised of this date.

“The fees payable by the Lower Six pupils will be in pro-rata basis to the approved First Term fees for each school: Given by the following formula: Number of days remaining in the 2025 first term by the total approved term one.”
