A TRIO from Bulawayo who allegedly unleashed a reign of terror on students from Bulawayo Polytechnic College, targeting those who knocked off late and robbing them at knife point, has been arrested.

They were arrested barely a few days after embarking on their wicked mission.

Last Moyo (26) from Nketa 7 suburb, Arnold Mlilo (29) from Lobengula West suburb, and Mthandazo Mpofu (32) from Nkulumane suburb appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube facing two charges of robbery. They pleaded not guilty and were remanded out of custody to 19 February on US$100 bail each.

Allegations against the trio are that on 29 January 2024 at around 7 pm, they waylaid Wellington Nleya at the Bulawayo Polytechnic Bridge located on the 9th extension.

One of them produced an okapi knife and threatened to stab the victim. The trio demanded valuables from the victim and they frisked him.

They stole a Samsung cellphone and US$20 from his pocket and went away.

On the same night, they approached another victim who was at the Centenary Park, Mthembisi Mpofu, and threatened to assault him.

The trio then took away US$100, a satchel with a laptop charger, a cell phone, a national identity card, a flash, and some groceries that entailed some beef and sausages and they fled the scene.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the trio.
