Illegal immigrant arrested after ex-lover turns snitch

Danisa Masuku

IN what could be a classic case of sour grapes, a woman allegedly snitched on her Congolese ex-lover who had been living in Zimbabwe illegally for eight years, leading to his arrest.

Mulamba Mutomba (38) from the Democratic Republic of Congo appeared for trial before Bulawayo magistrate Gamuchirai Gore facing charges of flouting the Immigration Act.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody until 16 February.

It is alleged that on 19 January this year at around 4 pm Immigration officers received a tipoff from his ex-girlfriend (name not supplied) that Mutomba has been staying in Zimbabwe illegally since 2016.

The officers carried out investigations and established that Mutomba is a DRC national and had no legal documents permitting him to stay in Zimbabwe.

He was arrested.
