THE Oliver Mtukudzi Memorial Half Marathon will also try to raise awareness on diabetes, promote health and wellness and celebrate cultural heritage through sport and music, the organisers have said.
Speaking ahead of the race on February 2, Sylvia Sanyanga, the event’s director, urged those who want to take part to register now.
It will run under the theme “Tuku Music Empowering Global Health.”
“We aim to raise awareness about diabetes, promote health and wellness, and celebrate cultural heritage through sports and music.
“I would like to invite everyone, runners, volunteers, sponsors and spectators to join us in making this event a success.
“Your support is crucial in honouring Tuku’s legacy and promoting a healthier future for our community.”
She added:
“This marathon is more than just a race; it is a celebration of the life and legacy of Zimbabwe’s beloved musical icon, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mukudzi.
“The event will include a dance fitness class by the award-winning choreographer and Zumba instructor John Cole and entertainment by various renowned musicians after the run.
“Your support is crucial in honoring Tuku’s legacy and promoting a healthier future for our community.”
Artists like Jah Prayzah and Andy Muridzo have endorsed the marathon.
Tuku died on January 23, 2019, after losing his battle against diabetes.
He was declared a national hero and was buried at his Madziwa homestead.
