A 13-year-old girl is pregnant after she was repeatedly raped by her uncle since March last year.
Her desperate calls for help were ignored with some of her relatives even blocking her moves to expose the abuse she was suffering at the hands of her uncle Last Matazu.
The rape came to light when she visited her mother in South Africa for the end-of-year holidays where she disclosed the abuse.
Her mother took her for medical examinations and they found out that she was pregnant.
She brought her daughter back to Harare where she filed a police report against Matazu.
Matazu is now on the run.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and said they were appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Matazu.
โPolice are investigating a rape case involving relatives in Southlands Park,โ said Insp Chakanza.
โCircumstances are that the accused person is an uncle to the complainant (husband to the complainantโs aunt).
โSometime in March 2024, the complainant was asleep in her bedroom when the accused entered the room.
โAccused person was reported to have strangled complainant and closed her mouth with a cloth, tore her pants, forcibly pushed her on the bed and raped once without protection.
โAfter the act, the younger sister of the accused personโs wife came into the room and saw the complainant crying but she told her to keep quiet.
โThe complainant told the accused personโs wife what had happened and she told her to keep quiet.
โThe complainant was then taken to her grandmother, who stays in Chirumhanzu. Where she narrated her ordeal and the grandmother told her not to report.โ
He added:
โIn August 2024 and in Southlands, the accused person entered into the spare bedroom where the complainant was asleep.
โAccused again raped the complainant once without protection.
โComplainant informed her relatives again but they reprimanded her and told her not to tell anyone.
โThe complainant went to South Africa to visit her mother and that is when her mother suspected that complainant was pregnant.
โComplainantโs mother then took her to the hospital where it was discovered that she was twenty-two weeks pregnant.โ
