TWENTY thousand people, all of them women, converged for one giant Sunday party — more people than you have seen at Rufaro in the past decade.
That is 1 500 more people than the 18 500 fans who paid their way into Rufaro, a combination of men, woman and children, for the return of the Harare Derby in April last year.
This was the highest attendance in the domestic Premiership last year.
At least 20 000 women are set to converge at Alex Sports Club for the final Doek & Slay show in the capital this year on Sunday.
It is set to be the biggest outdoor party, exclusively for women, ever seen in the capital and throughout this country.
That number is set to be 7 500 more people than the 12 500 fans who were at Rufaro this year for the first edition of the Harare Derby between CAPS United and Dynamos.
And, the organisers appear to be ready for the Party of the Year.
A visit by H-Metro to Alex Sports Club yesterday showed that preparations for the show are in full throttle and the organisers are already setting the stage and erecting other structures.
For the first in the history of events at Alex Sports Club, the organisers will use the entire section reserved for sports fields on the eastern side of the club.
That means an area, which can fit three sports fields, will be used by the organisers of the Doek & Slay show on Sunday.
The area has a cricket field, a football field and another space that can fit another football field.
“It’s going to be the biggest show at Alex because even when the club hosted international stars like Chris Martin, the organisers did not hire such a huge space for the event.
“Even when the Braai Fest was held at Alex, it did not occupy such a large space and that tells you why this one is different and will be massive.”
