TEACHERS PROTEST AT BORROWDALE SCHOOL OVER UNPAID SALARIES

Arron Nyamayaro

SOME teachers at a private school in Harare are up in arms with their employer whom they are accusing of not paying their salaries, including payments dating back to October last year.

They claim they have not been receiving their salaries from Tutorial Home Senior School in Borrowdale.

The teachers claimed the owner of the school, Tafadzwa Mushore, responded by terminating their contracts during the end-of-year holidays.

The letters read:

“This is to notify you that your employment contract will not be renewed in the academic year 2025.

“Your employment contract was a fixed term employment agreement and as such can be terminated by a non-renewal notice.

“Therefore, I regret to inform you that we will not be renewing your contract.

“Thank you for your service to this organisation.

“We wish you well in your future endeavours.”

One of the teachers, Shepherd Chitono, chose to post his grievances on social media. In his post, Chikono claimed that 30 teachers were yet to receive their salaries while Mushore bought a brand new Toyota Hilux GD6.

Mushore responded by protesting to the police and Chitono was forced to remove his post.

Mushore told H-Metro that Chitono has been influencing others to strike.

“It is true that I had some arrears but Chitono committed a crime by posting his grievances on social media.

“As we speak, I am at Marlborough Police Station with him for cyber crime.

“I have since settled his dues but I want him to face the law for influencing other teachers to fight me,” said Mushore.
