HAS Kudzai Violet Gwara, popularly known as KVG, been the best Radio Personality in Zimbabwe this year?
The Star FM star has charmed millions of radio listeners with her vintage presentation in her shows.
She is now one of the most recognisable faces on screen and radio.
KVG rose to prominence during her “326 Express” show on Star FM, which once featured Phathisani Sibanda.
Phathisani left Star FM and is now on Capitalk FM.
There were some who felt that KVG would struggle without Pathisani on her side.
But, she has proved that she is a genuine talent who can stand on her own.
At H-Metro, she is our Radio Personality of the Year for 2024.
But, are we right to say that she has outshone others like DJ Chilli, Linda Mhuriro, Tinashe Chikuse, DJ Smile, DJ Squilla, Butterfly, Skywalker, Chikara Ndundu, the immortal Tilda Moyo and Pathisani, to name but a few?
Top musician Pauline Gundidza said:
“I think she has brought life to radio, she is very intelligent and has a great sense of humor, she avoids scandalising her guests, she has elevated from just being a voice to a visible personality and celebrity, she has taken on the corporate world, she inspires many women to strive for gold.
“I admire her personally and believe she will go very far as a personality and influencer.”
An Afro-contemporary musician, who chose anonymity because of possible conflict of interest, said:
“Remember, I am an Afro-contemporary artist in which KVG hasn’t done much for those who are playing authentic Zim sound, in popularising the art to the Zimbabwean audience.
“I think for hip-hop, dancehall and afro-pop she is the best, she is good at stimulating conversations which really matters to all Zimbabweans.”
A regular radio listener, who also chose anonymity, said:
“KVG is good. She’s natural and knows how to connect with people. I’m sure she gained momentum when Phathisani was a co-host. They made a good team.
“However, I cannot say she’s the best. We have presenters like Skywalker who suits every generation.
“Skywalker anobata kwese.”
Renowned music producer Clive ‘Mono’ Mukundu said the question was subjective.
“The question is subjective; it differs from one person to another, people like different things.”
Prominent medical doctor, Johannes Marisa, said:
“My opinion is that there are many unsung presenters in the country spanning across all radio stations and if fairness is to be exercised, you will see she is not the best DJ today.”
A radio listener, who gave his name only as Lazarus, said:
“KVG is good when it comes to her voice but she has to add more depth when questioning or doing some interviews.”She can as well empower herself through more education.
“She is good but there is a need to add more.”
Another radio listener said:
“Thank God for Phathisani otherwise dai tisingamuzive. Dai Butterfly achiriko ndaivhotera Butterfly.”
