MAN POISONED BY DAUGHTER DESPITE GIFTING HER A HOUSE

Chipo Mukorama

A MAN was allegedly poisoned by his daughter despite having given her a house as a gift.

Eliot Chakanako fell out with his daughter, Mercy Chakanako, after she brought some bricks to renovate her new home.

Eliot felt her actions, to renovate the gift he had given her, was an insult as it suggested that he had given her a sub-standard gift.

This led to a nasty fallout between the duo and a physical confrontation.

Eliot has now filed an application at the Harare Civil Court seeing a protection order against his daughter.

He claimed Mercy has a history of violent behaviour towards him, including instances in which she has choked him.

“Ever since our altercation, she has been choking me.

“On November 11, I lost a tooth after she pushed me and I fell down the stairs.

“She then poisoned me and I spent weeks in the hospital,” he said.

In her response, Mercy claimed her father was a troublemaker who was just trying to destroy her reputation.

“My father is a troublemaker who always finds ways to ruin my reputation with false allegations.

“He was poisoned while on a business trip and he assumed that was the one who did it.”

Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted Eliot a protection order and ordered Mercy to stop tormenting her father.
