TRIBAL Fusion vocalist JustLeo says she wants to showcase the beauty of Africa’s different languages to the world.
Last week, the songbird released her debut music video “Kummawa,” which is a fusion of tribal beats and soulful melodies, featuring the Djembe Monk.
Justleo said next month, she will be releasing another song.
Speaking at the launch, JustLeo shared her motivation.
“Zimbabwe is home to a wealth of languages and cultures and I wanted to highlight that diversity.
“Singing in Chichewa was a deliberate choice to honour and celebrate our shared Zimbabwean heritage.
“My inspiration is to showcase the different languages in Africa, but mostly in Zimbabwe, and specifically in Victoria Falls.
“There are a lot of different languages, which are not really looked at, mostly.
“There were a few challenges when shooting the video, I had my own plans, I had my own outfits planned but once Andy hears your song, he will know what he wants from the song, like your dressing the venue, how he wants it to come out.”
Inspired by the legendary Chiwoniso Maraire, Feli Nandi and Andy Brown, JustLeo said she does not shy away from addressing deep societal issues in her songs.
The songstress has been performing soulful covers in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana while collaborating with various bands.
