A WOMAN downed a poisonous substance after she found out that her husband had paid lobola for another woman.
Forbes Degwa, who is a senior manager at a company in Kwekwe, married his second wife without the knowledge of his first wife Alice.
Anesu downed poison at her house in Kwekwe on January 8.
Forbes was not prepared to talk about his story when we contacted him and he promised to call us back in 15 minutes but never did so.
His second wife Angela denied any knowledge of the issue.
She said she was not married to anyone and told us to get more information from our sources.
Angela and Forbes probably thought that if they did not tell us their version of the story we were not going to publish the article about them.
What they did not know was that we had already gathered enough evidence which showed that the marriage had, indeed, taken place.
So, we went ahead and published the story yesterday.
We had established without any doubt that the marriage took place on December 14 last year.
The pictures provided all the evidence that Angela and Forbes were not only lovers but had tied the knot. We also established from our sources that trouble started when Angela advised the first wife that she was now officially married to her husband.
Anesu could not handle all this and attempted to kill herself.
Luckily, she survived and she is currently admitted at Kwekwe Hospital.
Anesu is an orphan.
A few weeks ago, a Great Zimbabwe University student committed suicide on Wednesday after finding out that her boyfriend was a married man.
Lillian Rusike was just 22.
She was on attachment at Masvingo Rural District Council.
She was honest in the relationship but Farai was not.
We don’t agree with what both women did in reacting to their predicaments because we believe that life is too precious to be sacrificed because of romantic issues.
We should not encourage our women that the best way to deal with heartbreaks or being let down by their husbands and partners is for them to kill themselves.
We know that sometimes it’s very difficult to accept that someone you loved dearly can let you down in such a way.
But that is all part of being human beings and these women are not the first to be duped by men and they are also not the last.
We feel that women who find themselves in such difficult situations should seek help from their relatives.
They can also seek help from professionals.
We have thousands of people who were trained to deal with such specific cases.
These are people who can use their knowledge to help these women rebuild their lives and start afresh.
Some of the women who have sought such specialist help have even rebuilt their lives and went on to find better lovers than the ones who betrayed them.
They are having good families and enjoying good lives.
