CITY MURDER: ANOTHER STREET KID NABBED

POLICE have arrested a second street kid in the case in which a man was murdered in the Harare Business District after leaving the Big Apple Sports Bar.

He was on his way to the Copacabana bus terminus.

Leroy Sambureni, a street kid popularly known as Makeni, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova.

Makeni joins another street kid, known as ‘Most Wanted’, who is in custody.

His real name is Takudzwa Mombeshora.

He was the first to appear in court and Makeni’s appearance means only one suspect remains on the run.

The court heard that on January 15, the late Forbes Jile of Dzivaresekwa left the Big Apple Sports Bar intending to look for transport for his trip back home.

It is alleged that as he was walking along Nelson Mandela Street in Harare’s CBD, he was confronted by Mombeshora and his gang members, who are still at large.

They grabbed his bag before they pushed him to the ground.

They started hitting him on the head while the others were searching his pockets.

They took his wallet, which had US$10, an Itel 70 cell phone and ran away.

Jile’s body was discovered by another street kid who filed a police report.

A post mortem examination was carried and the pathologist concluded that the  cause of death was head trauma and subdural hematoma.

Detectives from CID Homicide took over the investigation and gathered information that Mombeshora had disappeared from Harare CBD soon after committing the offence.

He was arrested at Copacabana rank.

Mombeshora implicated his accomplices.
