BOGUS CITY AGENTS TERRORISING CITY BUSINESS PEOPLE

SOME bogus agents, claiming they are City of Harare officials, are demanding money from businesses in the capital claiming the payments are for licences and other statutory requirements.

Harare Acting Town Clerk Engineer, Phakamile Moyo, said investigations have revealed that there are bogus corrupt operatives who are targeting businesses asking for licences and related statutory certificates.

“The City of Harare has received reports and complaints from stakeholders and businesses to the effect that there are people purporting to represent Council going around collecting money for licences from unsuspecting business people and ratepayers,” he said.

“Investigations have revealed that there are bogus corrupt operatives who are targeting businesses asking for licences and related statutory certificates.

“These people are collecting money on the spot, purportedly on behalf of the City of Harare.”

Eng Moyo said Council had no such facility.

“All payments are made to designated cashiers based at all City of Harare banking halls and other pay points and a receipt must be issued stating the amount paid and what it has been paid for,” he said.

“Business is therefore further advised to report to the police when approached by a person(s) purporting to represent Council but whose conduct is suspicious.”
