Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has received 10 vehicles from United Arab Emirates (UAE) wildlife conservation company, Umlando, through the Embassy of the UAE in Zimbabwe.
The 10 Isuzu double cab all-terrain vehicles are meant for operational activities.
ZimParks director-general Professor Edson Gandiwa received the vehicles.
Prof Gandiwa said the donation marks the dawn of a new era.
“This act of support signals a new level of unquestionable commitment and the commencement of a strategic partnership between the Authority and Umlando. That partnership strives to contribute towards the attainment of our shared objectives on sustainable conservation of Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage,” he said.
“It is important to note that this nature of support and strategic partnership is coming at a time when the Authority, just like many organisations in the country and beyond, is still recovering from disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the El Nino-induced drought, among others.
“The need for resources for wildlife conservation is much greater as we endeavour to implement our five-year strategic plan and ensure effective conservation of Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage.
“This plan will contribute to the National Development Strategy and ultimately to Vision 2030 which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy by 2030,” said Prof Gandiwa.
