Two Zimbabwean teenagers are set to write a piece of history as they step into the halls of Cambridge Union in the United Kingdom to take part in the International Competition for Young Debaters in May 2025.
The competition is one of the world’s prestigious debating platforms for students aged 15 and below.
Takura Sayi and Tanyaradzwa Kafera (both 15) who hail from the mining town of Zvishavane qualified for the competition after earning second place position at the inaugural African Qualifiers where five countries locked horns.
“We never thought we would make it to this stage. It is a dream come true for us. Many thanks to Mr Dube of the Ideas Matter Consultancy who organised this trip for us to go and showcase our talent,” said Takura.
The Cambridge Union has seen some of the world’s greatest thinkers such as Winston Churchill and John F Kennedy walking through its doors.
