ZANU PF has issued a stern warning to its members regarding the spreading of misinformation and creating divisions through social media.
The revolutionary party emphasised the importance of unity and order, stating that disciplinary measures would be implemented to address the issues.
The announcement follows the suspension of 10 members from the ZANU PF Harare Province for inciting discord within the party.
Those suspended are Cdes Kudakwashe Damson, Godwin Gomwe, Edson Ringwa, Victor Manungo, Denzel Romol, Lameck Chimanyiwa, Blessing Kambumu, Karen Maingahama and Spencer Mutero.
Addressing a media briefing in Harare yesterday, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa, said disciplinary action is underway for party members abusing the social media.
He said the party is in the process of crafting a social media policy to guide its members.
Cde Mutsvangwa added that those “who are hallucinating on social media are not part of the mainstream ZANU PF”.
He also said Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha and the Secretary for Security Cde Lovemore Matuke are “dealing with the malcontents”.
“This is a situation of malcontents who want to force themselves upon the party.
“Disciplinary action is being taken against them, so efforts by Harare provincial executive members to try to divide the leadership of the party are coming to nought.
“It will bring us to another milestone, which is the cohesiveness of the Zanu PF leadership,” he said.
Cde Mutsvangwa added that people who “are not properly schooled” have the ambition to talk about issues “which are beyond their capacity”.
“People who can’t even spell their names properly are busy broadcasting party issues. Because of the advent of social media, everybody has become a broadcaster,” he said.
Cde Mutsvangwa reiterated the party’s commitment to unity and progress, stating that the leadership aims to deliver prosperity for the people of Zimbabwe.
Turning to allegations of ZANU PF interfering with elections in neighbouring countries, Cde Mutsvangwa said the party respects the sovereignty of its neighbours.
This comes amid unsubstantiated social media claims that ZANU PF interferred in South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia elections.
Revolutionary parties invite each other during election campaigns as part of their solidarity, in the same way opposition parties also invite their regional and international peers during the same elections and national conferences and congresses.
