Youths from five wards in Hurungwe West recently took part in a sports gala that was held at Zvipani Primary School.
The gala, which was organised by a non-governmental organisation 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation in partnership with Hurungwe West legislator Cde Chinjai Kambuzuma was aimed at fighting drug and substance abuse and early child marriages.
The scourge is rife in the area. Cde Kambuzuma, who is also Zanu PF deputy chief whip in parliament, encouraged youths to desist from violence and drug abuse.
She discouraged communities from marrying off children to mitigate the effects of drought induced hardships.
A ward development coordinator in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Mr Emmanuel Chipisa also rallied the youth to maintain peace at all times.
โDrugs are also harmful to our health and will give you less chances of succeeding in life,โ he said.
4-H Zimbabwe Foundation executive director, Mr John Muchenje commended the youth from the constituency for showing up in numbers to support the initiative.
He highlighted that his organisation will continue to effectively use sport as a tool to spread critical messages.
4-H Zimbabwe has been using sports to communicate the message of peace and anti-drug abuse in communities around Zimbabwe.
The organisation recently used sports to improve the physical and mental health of inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in Harare and all the Midlands-based prisons during the provincial tournament at Whawha Medium Prison.
