ZIMBABWE youth international El Shaddai Sadomba keeps scaling up the ladders of his budding career after being named in the 2024 COSAFA Under-17 Boys Best 11 from a tournament recently held in Johannesburg.
Sadomba, who is the son of legendary Zimbabwe striker Edward Sadomba, is the only Young Warrior to make the list, which was dominated by eventual tournament winners Zambia.
Zambia have four players on the short-list, followed closely by neighbours South Africa and Angola, who have three players each.
Zambia completed a double in the 2024 COSAFA Under-17 Championship with both the junior men’s and women’s teams winning gold medals.
The women’s team were merciless as they defeated debutants Lesotho 15-0 in a one-sided affair, while the men’s team beat Angola 2-1 in a pulsating final.
The Young Warriors did not have the best of the tournament as they advanced to the semi-finals as the best second-placed.
They were eventually knocked out in the semi-finals by Angola after losing 0-2.
The defeat robbed them of the chance to play in the 2025 CAF Under-17 AFCON finals.
But Zimbabwe’s unfortunate circumstances could not deter Sadomba from making an impact.
He finished the tournament with five goals, including a hat-trick against Eswatini and a brace against Namibia in the group stages.
Last year, Sadomba also made a lasting impression with the Young Warriors.
He scored six goals in five matches at the CAF Schools Under 15 tournament.
He is now regarded as one of the future prospects for the Warriors.
