President attends climate change conference

President Mnangagwa is in Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties (COP29).
COP29 runs from November 11 to November 22.

The conference’s agenda is on funding of climate action.
Zimbabwe, like other developing countries, is reeling under the effects of climate change, which is causing frequent:
 droughts
 cyclones
 floods
 heatwaves
In a report released just ahead of the COP29 climate talks, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said there is need to unlock a new climate finance goal at COP29, as developed countries should double adaptation finance to at least $40 billion a year by 2025.
Zimbabwe requires US$100 billion to be a climate resilient nation by 2030 and is hoping to benefit from funding proposals that will be deliberated at the high-level summit.

President meets Belarus counterpart at COP29

SADC chairperson President Mnangagwa has met his Belarus counterpart President Aleksandr Lukashenko for a bilateral engagement, as the two leaders continue to consolidate the flourishing ties between the two countries.

The Heads of State met here on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP29, that will be officially opened today in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Zimbabwe and Belarus share strong ties, with the two countries cooperating comprehensively in various sectors of the economy.

The SADC chair is set to address the COP29 conference this afternoon.

Last year, President Lukashenko visited Zimbabwe for a State visit, further enhancing bilateral cooperation between Harare and Minsk.

Delegates arrive for COP24 official opening

Delegates have started arriving at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP29.


The conference is set to be officially opened this morning.


SADC Chairperson President Mnangagwa, who is heading Zimbabwe’s delegation, will address the conference this afternoon.
