The National Prosecuting Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RW Institute) of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law to strengthen the country’s justice delivery system.
The partnership will facilitate nationwide training of prosecutors, focusing on transparency and human rights protection.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prosecutor General Loyce Matanda-Moyo said the MoU symbolises the power of international cooperation in strengthening the rule of law and protecting human rights.
“Through this MoU, we aim to provide prosecutors with training, resources, and expertise that will reinforce our shared commitment to these essential rights,” she said.
“We hope that this partnership will enable us to embed fair trial rights more deeply into the core of our prosecutorial practices, ensuring that they guide our actions and decisions at every level.”
Justice Matanda-Moyo expressed optimism that the partnership will pave the way for a more just, equitable, and humane society.
“The MoU between the NPAZ and the RW Institute will empower us to strengthen areas that require improvement, benefiting from additional expertise and resources,” she said.
I look forward to the valuable exchanges, the professional growth, and the positive change that this partnership will foster within our prosecutorial community and beyond.”
The institute’s director for the Zimbabwe programme and Harare office, Mr Mikael Johansson said: “The overall objective of this programme is to contribute to increased enjoyment of constitutional rights in Zimbabwe by means of legislation, policy, practices and decision- making, which is increasingly being informed by international human rights standards and principles, as reflected in the Constitution of Zimbabwe.”
