CAPS United defender Godknows Murwira has expressed gratitude after being voted amongst the 11 Soccer Stars of the Year finalists.

Alongside his teammate Kingsley Mureremba, the duo secured their spots on a calendar that was mostly dominated by Simba Bhora players.

Despite facing challenges with CAPS United throughout the season, Murwira showcased outstanding performance, earning him national team call-ups and a crucial role in the countryโ€™s qualification for the upcoming Afcon edition. Murwira, who was stripped of his captaincy by the club coach Lloyd Chitembwe after some disciplinary concerns, remained one of the best outstanding in the Makepekepe camp.

Despite finishing ninth on the log standings and with one of the worst defences in the league. Murwira made it among the best.

In an interview with Zimpapers Sports, Murwira conveyed his feelings, stating,

โ€œWords alone cannot describe how happy I am at the moment.

โ€œBeing part of the final 11 means a lot to me. It shows that a lot of people were seeing my efforts despite having many who criticised me.

โ€œThere is no game of football without critics so I embrace them and I donโ€™t listen to the negative vibes they bring.

โ€œOf course, the same people would say I donโ€™t deserve but truth told I didnโ€™t vote myself.

โ€œThose who voted found it worth what I deserve and I am grateful.

He attributed his success to the unwavering support of his teammates, acknowledging their essential role in his achievements.

โ€œNote that without a team there is no game of football, the understanding with my fellow teammates on the field of play made me a better player. โ€œAnd of course, you canโ€™t go without mentioning the role of the coach, he drives us and makes us what we are. There is due credit for everyone associated with the club.

โ€œThe season has just concluded and we are taking time to recharge and spend time with family.

โ€œThere is nothing much to talk about at the moment. Itโ€™s family time and time to retrospect.โ€
