Recent rains received in Mbire have brought relief to the community that was facing the full brunt of extreme temperatures.

Mrs Amina Mauridi from Ward 2 in Mbire said this year’s heatwave was more intense than those of previous years.

“To cope with the heat, we stopped walking around during the daytime. We were staying under the shade most of the time.

“We have been using clay pots to cool our drinking water as most people do not have refrigerators,” she said.

Mr Aaron Karomo, a member of the Nyenyedzi yeChinomwe Apostolic Church, said they had moved their church due to the extreme heat.

“Now we worship under the shade, which we never considered in the past,” he said.

Miss Chengetayi Chininga, head of operations at Katswe Sistahood said they are also addressing climate change issues in their programmes.

“Mbire faces extreme conditions, and climate change is a reality we must confront. We have integrated sustainable livelihoods into some of our initiatives,” she said.

She emphasised the importance of climate change communication in raising community awareness about environmental issues.
