The Malaysian Embassy has donated wheelchairs to four children with paraplegic and hemiplegic disabilities at Ruvimbo Simulation Centre in Chipadze, Bindura.
The embassy also gave the centre additional support.
Charge de Affairs Malaysia Mr Hailk Mohd Aniff said he was touched by the plight of children with disabilities at the centre when he first visited the province in March this year.
โ€œThe embassy is interested in assisting in any way possible to give the children life skills so that they become self-sufficient,โ€ he said.
The founder of Ruvimbo Simulation Centre, Dr Gilliet Chigunwe who is a university lecturer said there is need for lecturers to take the lead in responding to community needs.
โ€œIt is time for lecturers to get out of the campus and work together with communities to tackle shared challenges,โ€ she said.
โ€œLet us utilise our knowledge in building sustainable and relevant universities that effectively address specific needs of the community that we serve.โ€
The centre has eight paraplegic and hemiplegic children, 10 children under home visits and over 20 youths and women.
