Football lovers will not miss their favourite sport entirely during this off-season as the game’s legends clash is slated for the upcoming festive holidays at the now-refurbished Gwanzura Stadium, later this month.
The exciting festival to be hosted by Highfield-born businessman Sergei Idana will be held on December 28.
According to Idana, a legends team fronted by former Belgium-based Warriors skipper Moses Chunga will size each other against CAPS United ex-footballers and a third team composed of yesteryear greats of Arcadia United.
Names like Kennedy Nagoli, Maronga Nyangela, Peter Ndlovu and Stix Mtizwa are being tipped for Chunga’s side, while David Sengu, Silver Chigwenje and Brenna Msiska are among the star attractions in the CAPS team.
Charlie Jones, Carlos Max, Nat Bismarck, Charlie White and Shepherd Muradzikwa have been roped in for the Arcadia select team.
“We are holding this event to celebrate several milestones that include the Warriors’ qualification for Afcon 2025, the impending reopening of Gwanzura and also the fifth anniversary of musician Ndunge Yut,” chronicled Idana.
Another social soccer match on the bill will pit journalists against musicians.
To put the icing on the cake an all-night musical fiesta featuring Zimdancehall artists will follow the football games with Ndunge Yut, of the “Munopireiko Doro” dancehall anthem hit, as the headline act.
Idana appealed to all football and music lovers to make their way to the venue.
“It has been a long time since we saw people in Harare mixing and mingling leisurely at one spot as this last happened at Hifa and before Covid.
Gate charges are still being worked out in consultation with stakeholders such as City of Harare, Zimbabwe Music Rights Association and the Zimbabwe Football Legends Association but Idana hinted entry could be as low as $1.
