PRIMROSE SERIMA is riding on the crest of the wave ahead of the Mighty Warriors camp that begins on Sunday for the upcoming 2026 WAFCON qualifiers.
The charismatic former midfielder, who is one of the assistant Mighty Warriors coaches, wouldn’t have asked for any better motivation than the recognition that comes with being named the coach of the tournament in a prestigious annual Jadel Football Academy jamboree.
The 8-Aside contest that featured eight teams, including Jadel China, who were the eventual winners, was held at Belgravia Sports Club last Saturday.
On a day ZIFA were holding elections to shape the future of the game in this country, the development-oriented JFA, led by their director Walter Musanhu, were busy chiselling out the future stars.
Auckland, Springs, Mobile Academy, Scottland, City Academy, Real Saints, Jadel Zimbabwe, and Jadel China participated in this tournament.
And Serima, who is the head coach for Jadel Zimbabwe, picked the coach of the tournament accolade.
She was the only female head coach in the cast and led her team to the final, where they lost 1-0 to Jadel China.
Serima, who is also a fitness coach, saluted the organisers of the tournament and said she will go into the Mighty Warriors camp a confident lot.
Zimbabwe, who are under the tutelage of Sithethelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda, will face Angola in a two-legged fixture with the winner getting to play either Congo or Malawi for the right to be in Morocco next year.
“I am very happy to have made the impact that I made at the Jadel Academy tournament last Saturday. I will treasure that accolade.
“It means a lot for me to journey on as a coach,” said Serima.
“It was a very competitive tournament, and for you to be then picked as the best out of the lot means the world to me.
“I will join the Mighty Warriors camp in high spirits, and I hope to rub off on the excitement with the entire squad and possibly rub off on the winning spirit unto them as well.”
Musanhu said Serima is a good coach and can become a household name in the future.
“I would like to congratulate Primrose for her achievement.
“The tournament went on very well, and we have a lot of potential as a country. We want to keep these youngsters together.
“We need to make it a national tournament where we can fish out the talent and let them grow together playing in the same system, and in 2024, I know we can see them carrying us in the World Cup.
“Allow me to recognise our sponsors, including Prevail Group, Ezulwini Villa Lodge, Hempack Chemicals, and Betterbrands, for supporting us. I would also like to thank Zimpapers.” Warriors’ poster boy Khama Billiat was also named the JFA brand ambassador.
