TWO teenagers have appeared in court for allegedly raping a Form Three pupil in Gwanda at knifepoint, while she was on her way home from school.
Renalethabo Ndlovu (19) and his 16-year-old co-accused who cannot be named for ethical reasons, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Gwanda provincial magistrate, Ms Patience Madondo facing a charge of indecent assault and rape.
They were remanded in custody to Friday.
Prosecuting, Ms Karen Gundani said the accused persons met the complainant on December 4 and took turns raping her.
“On 4 December, Ndlovu and his co-accused who is 16-years-old, met the complainant who was coming from school. The 16-year-old told Ndlovu that the complainant was his girlfriend and he also claimed that the girl was his,” she said.
The court heard that Ndlovu forcibly kissed the complainant, caressed her thighs, and touched her breasts.
“He told the complainant that he loved her and wanted to have sexual intercourse with her but she refused. Ndlovu then produced a knife and placed it on the complainant’s neck,” said Ms Gundani.
The court heard that Ndlovu raped the complainant twice on the scene. As the complainant was wearing her clothes and preparing to leave the scene, Ndlovu’s co-accused stopped her and raped her. Ms Gundani said after committing the offence, the two accused persons allowed the complainant to leave. She said the complainant met some of her schoolmates who had witnessed the incident and they advised her to report the matter to the police.
