A 30-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been arraigned for allegedly assaulting his sister in a violent altercation for quizzing his whereabouts.

Bakani Ndebele from Nkulumane suburb appeared before Bulawayo Western Commonage magistrate Mr Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe facing an attempted murder charge. He was remanded him in custody to Wednesday.

The prosecutor, Mr Milton Moyo told the court that the incident occurred sometime in December last year at around 7AM in Nkulumane. The altercation began when the complainant, Ms Lungani Ndebele confronted her brother about his whereabouts the previous day, which reportedly angered him.

โ€œThe alleged offence was committed when Ms Lungani Ndebele confronted her brother about his whereabouts. This did not sit well with the accused, who was reportedly intoxicated,โ€ said Mr Moyo.

The court heard that the verbal exchange quickly escalated into a physical fight.

โ€œNdebele began assaulting his sister using fists and slaps. He then banged her head against the wall multiple times,โ€ said Mr Moyo.

Ms Ndebele collapsed and lost consciousness during the attack, and her brother left her lying on the ground.

The victim sustained head injuries, suspected internal bleeding, and cuts on her lips and was rushed to hospital.

A report was made to the police leading to the accusedโ€™s arrest.

In his defence, Ndebele claimed he was intoxicated and unaware of his actions.

โ€œI was drunk and did not understand what was happening around me. I only realised what I had done when my sister was already lying on the ground, bleeding. There was no bad blood between us, and I am asking for forgiveness. I truly do not know what came over me,โ€ he said.
