The alarming rise in school dropouts and drug abuse highlights the urgent need for organisations focused on youth empowerment. One such organisation making a remarkable impact is Pumula Finest Academy, which nurtures talent and skills from pre-school through high school.

Originally established as Ekasi Home of Light in 2018, the academy was rebranded to Pumula Finest Academy in December 2022. Specialising in acting, dancing, modelling, and music, the academy offers students opportunities to develop their artistic potential, paving the way for professional careers.

The academy’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. They have been nominated in six categories for the upcoming Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (Praca) scheduled for December 21. Their nominations include Best Dance Group, Best Comedian, Best Dancer, Best Director, Best Theatre Actor, and Best Modelling.

One of the academy’s directors, Prosper T Maregere, said: “The academy is focused on identifying and nurturing artistic talent among students, helping them pursue professional opportunities in the performing arts.”

He highlighted the academy’s partnerships with schools such as Cana Primary School, Premier High School, Pumula South Secondary School, and Amhlophe High School, where they conduct talent-scouting sessions and extracurricular programmes.

Maregere expressed his gratitude and pride over the academy’s recognition at the Pracas.

“I’m honoured and humbled that the academy has been recognised with these prestigious nominations.

This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the academy’s staff, as well as the immense talent and potential of our students.

“This recognition not only validates the impact the academy has had but also inspires us to expand our reach and empower more aspiring artistes in the community.”

In their fifth edition, the Pracas will take place on December 21. The two-day event will begin with a festival at Pumula North Hall, culminating in the main awards ceremony the following day. The main event will be hosted by Umnikazi WeMpuphu, Khaya Pardon Khanye, Precious Rose, and Khalanga Lenkosi, while Admire J Banda will host the festival.
