PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has extended the term of office of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), General Philip Valerio Sibanda, to November 23 this year.
In a notice, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, said the extension is effective from December 24, 2024.
“It is hereby notified that His Excellency the President has, in terms of proviso (i) to the Defence (Regular Force) (Officers) Regulations, 1988, published in Statutory Instrument 152 of 1988, extended the appointment of General Philip Valerio Sibanda as Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces with effect from the 24th December 2024 to the 23rd November 2025,” read the notice.
Gen Sibanda has served as ZDF Commander since 2017.
Last week, President Mnangagwa reassigned two Cabinet Ministers and appointed a new Director General of the President’s Department.
He appointed former Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, July Moyo, as the new Minister of Energy and Power Development, while Minister Edgar Moyo took over the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare portfolio.
The President also appointed Dr Fulton Mangwanya as Director General of the President’s Department, taking over from Ambassador Isaac Moyo.
Dr Mangwanya had been the Director General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management.
