IN a significant milestone for the healthcare sector, the Second Republic has equipped Zvishavane District Hospital with a state-of-the-art X-ray machine after eight years without this critical diagnostic tool.
This development marks a step forward in the Government’s efforts to modernise healthcare infrastructure and ensure universal health coverage in line with Vision 2030.
Speaking during the commissioning of the equipment on Tuesday, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube said the new equipment is an indication of the Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services across the country.
“Today we are gathered here at Zvishavane District Hospital for the commissioning of the X-ray machine which is going to go a long way in improving health care delivery to the people of Zvishavane,” he said.
He said since the advent of the Second Republic, President Mnangagwa has been at the forefront of spearheading the construction of new hospitals and clinics while also refurbishing existing ones.
Minister Ncube reiterated that healthcare reforms under the Second Republic aim to match international best practices, ensuring Zimbabwe’s readiness for upper-middle-income status by 2030.
“At the same time, we have been bringing state-of-the-art equipment. It is in this vein that as Midlands Province, we will continue to do our best and ensure that we give and achieve universal health coverage for all,” he said.
He said the commissioning of the X-ray machine is part of the Government’s comprehensive healthcare reforms, which include infrastructure development, workforce training, and the provision of cutting-edge medical equipment.
Minister Ncube said with such initiatives, Zvishavane District Hospital is now better positioned to meet the healthcare needs of its community, signalling a brighter future for healthcare delivery in the Midlands Province.
Mr Prince Moyo from Makusha suburb in Zvishavane commended the Government for equipping the hospital with modern medical equipment to improve service delivery.
“I’m quite happy with the work being done by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and partners in ensuring a healthy community in the district. It is my wish that the district can even be equipped with more ambulances to ensure full coverage,” he said.
Mr Moyo said they did not have an X-ray machine at the health centre for the past eight years.
“Now, we have the X-ray machine, which means there won’t be any need to travel and therefore cutting unnecessary travel expenses. We are very appreciative of our leadership for this timely intervention. The donation came at an opportune time when we were faced with a lot of challenges in health delivery,” he said.
The absence of an X-ray machine at the hospital had forced patients to travel to Bulawayo or Gweru for imaging services, creating financial and logistical burdens for residents. The newly installed machine will eliminate these challenges, offering timely and accessible diagnostic services.
Zvishavane-Ngezi Constituency legislator, Cde Mecky Jaravaza, applauded the Government for prioritising health infrastructure.
He said the newly installed X-ray machine at the hospital is expected to significantly improve healthcare services in the province.
“The machine will enhance the provision of quality healthcare to the local community and beyond. This investment is a positive step towards improving the nation’s healthcare system. The new equipment will alleviate this burden, providing residents with accessible and affordable medical care,” said Cde Jaravaza.
