Two teenagers up for stealing car

TWO teenagers from Pumula East suburb in Bulawayo have appeared in court for allegedly stealing a car worth US$4 000 from Hillcrest suburb.

Alex Zibusiso Mwanza (18) and his accomplice who is a minor, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Collet Ncube facing a charge of stealing a motor vehicle.

The duo was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 2 March 2023.

Allegations against the duo are that on 13 February 2023 and at around 8pm, Tendai Mazikani (31) parked her car, a purple Honda Fit at her house in Hillcrest.

She secured the car by locking all the doors and took the car keys with her to her house where she later retired to bed.

During the night, the duo opened the gate that was not locked and used an unknown object to unlock the car and drove it away.

On 14 February at around 8am, Mazikani woke up and discovered that her car had been stolen and she then reported the matter at the ZRP Hillside.

On the same day at around 6pm, the duo was driving the car and it ran out of fuel when they got near a railway line in Cowdray Park, and they parked it.

Police officers who were on patrol approached them and sensing danger Mwanzaโ€™s accomplice ran away.

Mwanza was immediately arrested on the scene.

On 16 February, information was received on the whereabouts of his accomplice and he was arrested.
