THREE men from Lobengula West suburb in Bulawayo have appeared before the court facing charges of attempted murder.
Mayibongwe Dumani (35), Quinton Mwembe (26), and Washington Ndlovu (31) appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Benhilda Chiwundura.
They all pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to 22 January 2024, for continuation of trial.
In his defence, Ndlovu told the court that at the time of the incident, he had gone out of the bar and only returned later after being informed by others that his friends were being attacked.
The two other accused admitted to having fought with the complainants, however, they claimed it was in self-defence as the complainants had attacked them first.
They also denied stabbing the two complainants.
Allegations are that on 24 November 2024, at around 2pm at Migalo Sport Bar in New Lobengula in Bulawayo, the complainants, Claudias Dube and Keith Sibanda, were drinking beer in the company of friends near the accused persons.
It was heard that the accused persons began insulting patrons inside the bar.
Upon witnessing the accused persons’ behaviour and wanting to avoid trouble, the complainants left and went outside.
The accused persons reportedly followed the complainants outside, where it was heard that they began attacking the two complainants all over their bodies using a beer bottle and a brick.
It was heard that Mwembe then proceeded to stab Dube on the ear, chest, and left arm using an Okapi knife.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
