ALL is now sorted for young chess sensation Babongile Mushonga to travel to Greece where she will take part in the Fide 2023 World School Chess Championships.
The Fide World School Chess Championships are going to be in Rhodes, Greece from 13 April to 23 April.
Mushonga (10), who goes to Coghlan Primary School in Bulawayo, is set to depart on 12 April.
Speaking to B Metro Sport, Mushongaโs mother Sukoluhle Ndlovu confirmed that her daughterโs dream-a scary one for most people- to square off against some of the best chess players in the world will soon come to fruition after a positive response to an appeal of a helping hand.
This publication has previously carried stories on the chess starlet โs appeal for funds to realise her dream of representing the country where she will do battle against other up and coming chess crรจme de la crรจme of the world.
โI am very happy with the efforts and financial aid thatย people put in to make Babongileโs dream come true. Everything is now in place. I can confirm that she will certainly travel to Greece. Her plane tickets and accommodation have been fully paid for.
I want to thankย everyone on behalf of our family,โ said Ndlovu.
Fide is the governing body of the sport of chess, and it regulates all international chess competitions. Constituted as a non-governmental institution, it was recognised by the International Olympic Committee as a Global Sporting Organization in 1999.
FIDE currently has its headquarters in Lausanne, but it was initially founded in 1924 in Paris under the motto โGens una Sumusโ (Latin for โWe are one Familyโ).
