Talen Vision gun for championship

AFTER watching their players and coaches clinch the inaugural Insiza District Ward 15 Independence Cup courtesy of their 3-1 penalty lottery win against fellow Southern Region Division One side Jordan Sinnot, Talen Vision president Khumbulani Nkomo boldly declared that they were targeting the league championship.

It has been years of so near yet far stories for Talen Vision who in 2019 missed out on the sole ticket to the countryโ€™s topflight league after playing second fiddle to Bulawayo City before losing out on promotion last year to eventual winners Hwange by a whisker.

โ€œWe have missed out on the league title for so many years. This time around we badly wantย  it. We want that championship trophy,โ€ declared Nkomo.

The ambitious Vision, who have since adopted Filabusi Government Primary School as their home ground, opened their 2023 season with a 2-0 triumph over Ratanang.

The Trukumb Mining bankrolled Talen Vision should however, expect stiff competition from Arenel Movers who finished their last yearโ€™s campaign on position four.

The Insiza District Ward 15 Independence Cup meet was organised by the wardโ€™s Councillor Shepherd Juta and was sponsored by the proprietor of Majankwe Stores Zibusiso Ncube.

For their tireless efforts that saw their captain Ronald Kaunda, Misheck Nyamutoya and ex-Chicken Inn midfielder Future Gumbo convert from the spot while their goalminder Ryan Mlanga had his saved by his opposite number Tavenga Buda, Talen Vision got a floating trophy, a goat plus US$60 prize money.

On the other hand, Jodarn Sinnott, who only converted through Michael Ncube went home with a goat and US$40.

Vision coach Mirorslav Nemec said the win was a confidence boosterย  for his charges ahead of their following league matches.

โ€œWe gave our other players a run and we are happy to have won. Itโ€™s a first trophy for the team which becomes a confidence booster for us,โ€ said Nemec.

Sinnott mentor Johanisi Nyumhwa conceded defeat saying they will needed to work on their mistakes of lack of finishing touch.

โ€œWe created a lot of chances and failed to score. We seriously need to work on that because we should have won the match in the first-half,โ€ said Nyumhwa.

The tournamentsโ€™ sponsor pledged to continue bankrolling the event

The event also saw Nkankezi and Amazon ladies engage in a netball friendly match.
