A CONVERSATION between a mother and her 12-year-old daughter from New Lobengula suburb in Bulawayo about child sexual abuse ended in tears when the girl later revealed that she was raped by a man from the neighbourhood before she started pre-school.
This was heard when Dumisani Dube (23) appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Vivian Ndlovu facing a charge of rape.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 12 April.
Allegations against Dube are that sometime before the juvenile started her pre-school, she was playing outside when Dube called her into his house.
While inside the house, victim claimed Dube instructed her to undress and she complied and that is when Dube took off his shorts and raped her.
The girl claimed Dube repeated the act for a week and she did not disclose the matter to anyone.
The matter, however, came to light this year when the victim was talking with her mother about matters of sexual abuse and that is when she disclosed the incident.
The victim and her mother then reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Dube.
The girl was referred to hospital for medical examination and a medical affidavit was produced in court as evidence.
