FORMER Barcelona FC coach Morris Mukwiti has quit Zifa Central Region Division One side Amazon FC of Matobo District, owing to non-payment of his salary.
The coach who is now back in the City of Kings said this morning that he was forced to leave the club because he was now finding life difficulty without an income with a family to take care of.
โI joined the club at the beginning of the season as head coach. The team had been promoted from the lower division. I signed a two-year contract with them. They only paid my February and March salaries.ย At first, the club provided food and paid rent for both the technical team and players but that has now stopped,โ said Mukwiti.
He says he is not the only one to have deserted the club this season.
โThe team manager left and the assistant coach has also left the club. I was now incapacitated to continue working. The owner failed to fulfill his contractual obligations despite getting financial assistance from the Sun Yet Sen Business community, Tshelanyemba Business community and Gatsani small-scale miners who also helped the club financially,โ said Mukwiti.
Mukwiti coached the likes of Max Ruza at Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) side Barcelona in the late 1990s.
He also worked with Njube Sundowns and a couple of other lower division teams.
