Marabini meets the people

Celebrated music guru Jeys Marabini is on a quest to connect with his local fans from all corners of the country and in starting the initiative, he is set to stage a ‘Meet the People’ tour which will officially be launched in Harare over the weekend.

Marabini will do four shows starting 28 April at Theatre in the Park in Harare Gardens. On 29 April, the show will move on to the Red Eagle in Ruwa.

Bar Rouge at Long Chen Plaza will play host on 30 April, and he will finally wrap up the tour on Workers Day (1 May) at PJC Restaurant and Guesthouse in Amby in Greendale.

“I have four shows lined up and this is a mini-tour that is coming as a response to requests by fans in Harare who have been asking for me to stage shows in that part of the country. I will also take it as a chance to gauge my strength as a solo act.

“I would like to thank Dabengwa, the owner of Mushandirapamwe who has offered us accommodation for free. It’s good to see how people love our art. We have received overwhelming support at all the venues where we are going to perform.

“We are going to take our own PA system as we want everything to be top-notch. We want to open new ground and a new market in the capital city. All this while that I’ve been performing in Harare, it has been at big shows, and this time we are in for a test as I will be performing alone,” said Jeys Marabini.

Well-known and much loved with a wide fan base in Zimbabwe, Marabini’s music is self-categorised as Afro Centric, with elements of traditional rhythms and melodies, fused with Marabi, Afropop and Afro Jazz – well-crafted and highly danceable songs and heart-warming lyrics to please everyone.

Marabini is a decorated creative, who received the Music Lifetime Achievement award from the TESMA Awards 2022. He has performed widely in the City of Kings, and other Zimbabwean stages including the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival in October 2022, and also in the USA, Austria, India, Canada and South Africa.

Along the way he has performed with a wide range of musicians and shared the stage with world and Africa acclaimed artistes such as Peter Gabriel, the late Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masekela and Nana Coyote of Stimela, and Ringo Madlingozi, Zahara, the Soweto String Quartet, Ladysmith Black Mambazo among others.
