A 73-YEAR-Old man who was accused of attacking a calf of a fellow villager bled profusely and later passed out after he was allegedly attacked with a knobkerrie on the head and ribs.
It is reported that Ben Ngulube (65) from Fort Rixon in Matabeleland South provinceย saw Aron Gumbo (73) passing by his homestead and allegedly shouted at him for having attacked his calf causing it to suffer a broken leg.
After that tempers boiled and later spiraled out of control when Ngulube reached for his knobkerrie before he allegedly attacked Gumbo several times on the head and ribs.
It is said Gumbo bled profusely and collapsed before he was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Ngulube was arrested and appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Themba Chimiso facing an assault charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to 12 October for continuation of trial.
ย In his defence Ngulube said he only quizzed Gumbo on why he attacked his calf and after that an argument ensued but he never attacked him.
He said there were people who were present at the scene and they could come and testify in court.
He said Gumbo was trying to drag his name in the mud.
However, during cross-examination Gumbo maintained that Ngulube attacked him with a knobkerrie and he sought medical attention at hospital.
He said there was bad blood between him and Ngulube.
He also produced a medical report which showed that he suffered injuries on the ribs and head as a result of the attack.
