THE tragic passing of Rhumba outfit Insimbi ZeZhwane’s lead vocalist Elvis “Ma Eli” Mathe and drummer Thembinkosi “Maviri” Mpofu last year sent shockwaves through the music industry.
Many feared that the loss of such key members would signal the end of the group.
However, Insimbi ZeZhwane has proven resilient, continuing to produce music and perform, demonstrating that the spirit of the band lives on.
Their recent album titled Imbobo Zamajuba has been well-received, further solidifying their position in the music scene.
To prove their enduring popularity and unwavering commitment to their craft, Insimbi ZeZhwane has confirmed a fully booked festive season. This demonstrates that the group remains one of Bulawayo’s most sought-after and hardworking creative ensembles.
Led by bassist Meluleki “Brema” Moyo, who narrowly survived a fatal accident, Insimbi ZeZhwane is proving to be even stronger than before. Many Rhumba fans had predicted the demise of the group following the tragic loss of Ma Eli, but the band has defied expectations.
So far in December, Insimbi ZeZhwane has kicked off their festive season with a performance in Filabusi on 14 December.
On 20 December, the outfit will headline an event at Pagomba Café in Beitbridge, sharing the stage with Amathonga Amahle and Abigail Mabuza.
Following their Beitbridge performance, Insimbi ZeZhwane has a packed schedule that includes shows in Matopo, Tsholotsho, Gwanda, Esigodini, and Plumtree.
The highlight of their festive tour will be a headline performance at the Bulawayo Shutdown gig on 27 December at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Hall 1.
At the much-hyped event, the group will share the stage with Zimbabwean music giants Jah Prayzah and Winky D, as well as a number of local creatives such as Mzoe 7, Sandra Ndebele, Ma9nine, Enzo Ishall, Levels and Fantan, and Saintfloew.
All of Insimbi ZeZhwane’s upcoming performances are must-attend events.
Skeptics who doubted the group’s ability to continue thriving after the loss of key members will have the opportunity to witness first-hand the incredible work Brema has done in leading the band to such success.
Those who attend the gigs will have a chance to witness the group performing some of the latest songs from their album, including Imbeleko, Ingqinamba,” “Umfukula, Morning Glory, Imbobo Zamajuba, Umathambula, and Mileage.
On being fully booked, Brema expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from promoters and fans alike.
As the group prepares for tonight’s show in Beitbridge, Brema encourages fans to attend in large numbers, promising a top-notch performance.
“It’s an honour to be fully booked during the festive season. We are grateful to the numerous promoters who have given us a second chance and allowed us to provide for our families,” said Brema.
“Many people thought that after losing our brothers, the Insimbi ZeZhwane brand would also perish.
“We are thankful to God for helping us stay together and guiding us in creating this album.
“I am happy with the boys I am working with and I would also like to appreciate Frank ‘High Tower’ Masuku and Luke Ergan Mathe for their excellent vocal contributions to the project,” he added.
